The Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone (Toutunhe district) plans to invest 6 million yuan ($883,000) on floral street decorations this year to invigorate the city, local media reported on June 15.
Some 1.2 million potted flowers and green plants will be planted along the main streets within the zone. Floral decorations will be designed around several themes, including national unity, national fitness and the Belt and Road.
Another 190 million yuan will be invested to improve the green areas surrounding the Urumqi High-speed Train Station.
An area of 190,000 square meters has been designed to include 1,200 trees, 600,000 bushes and a 62,000-square-meter area for flowers, according to Zhao Quanjiang, official from the zone's forestry and gardening management bureau.
"Garden and grassland lighting will also be installed along the greenbelt, and will provide spectacular scenery with colorful lights in the evening," said Zhu Lianwu, deputy manager of Xinjiang's Construction Investment Project Management and Consultancy Co Ltd.
